Duty Calls – WTF?

Duty Calls, the calm before the storm is one of those parody games typically created to mock another game, in this case the Call of Duty/Modern Warfare franchise. This “Game” is around three minutes long for the full main story, and involves some very in-depth conversations with NPC’s, by the way did I mention it’s also free? So read on to see what this game’s all about.

Firstly you can download the game here: http://www.thedutycalls.com/

Now honestly the only reason I played this is because it’s free and it’s another mini Call of Duty game. Even though it’s a parody it’s still mildly humorous such as the leveling up ranks and the shooting sound effects which aren’t actual gunfire sounds it’s just a guy saying “boring”. You could easily complete the game in under 4 minutes if you try, my personal record is: 2 Minutes 35 Seconds so give that a go and try to beat it! The rules are as follows:
1. The timer starts when your able to move.
2. The timer stops the first second you see the “The End” text.
3. You must pick up every item.
4. You must kill every enemy, except the boss.

Post a comment if you beat it or had an attempt.

The game attempts to devaluate chosen aspects of the Call of Duty franchise, such as the bloody screen in the series, this is done through the game three times by letting the enemy shoot the player and a voice saying: “Bloody Screen, So Real!”. Another few objects in this game are the Small Meaningless Stick, and the 500 Sheets of Wide Ruled Notebook Paper which are actually as useless as they sound, this could refer to some of the various objects in games which have a useless name or an actually useless use which can be obtained throughout various games.

The story throughout the game is very linear as well as actually containing many twists which were surprising considering the time-frame they would have had to make this game. I absolutely love the rank up vocals! Especially near the end when you achieved the rank of: “Sergeant of the Master Sergeants most important person of Extreme Sergeants to the Max!”. Surprisingly while playing through the game I wanted to go back and play Modern Warfare 2 straight away, it’s strange because I know it’s mocking the game but there’s also so much similarity between them and while playing through this I was wanting more. Obviously because of the extremely, no impossibly easy enemies that you could just walk past and weren’t a challenge at all. Even the final boss was a pushover I though there would at least be rockets in that shed which you could use to shoot his face with which explodes into a billion blood covered particles. However in the end he just ended up crying while some Inspector Gadget thumbs shot out flags and fireworks…?

I was disappointed to find out that the whole reason for the game was to show off an upcoming game trailer, it didn’t even make me want to buy it, probably due to the low quality of the graphics and horrible sound effects. The trailer is even longer than the whole game which was pretty annoying! I even tried skipping it by ending the Duty Calls process which sort of worked but left my Windows 7 system without the Aero Theme.

Overall the game proves to be of nice comedic value and provides quite a few laughs especially when levelling up and will waste a good few minutes of your life, however unless you are doing the challenge to beat my score or something your highly unlikely to play it more than five times. I bet if someone decided to make an entire game much like this only consisting of parody’s of other games it’d be a huge success especially if it was as well thought out and planned as this game was. So take a chance and download the game to play, you won’t regret it especially being free.
